Edith was born in June 1899 in Bolton.1  Edith's father was William Glazebrook and her mother was Elizabeth Ann Horrocks.  Her paternal grandparents were William Glazebrook and Mary Ellen Heaton; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Horrocks and Jane Dewhurst. She had two brothers and four sisters, named William, Arthur, Doris, Mary, Edna and Annie.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.
