George's father was James (Jim) Gerrard and his mother was Elizabeth Muriel Davies. His paternal grandparents were Charles Hugh Gerrard and Mary Ann Thomas. He was an only child. He died at the age of 91 on January 27th, 2008 in Suffolk.

- George married Dorris Hartley and they had 2 sons.
  
  Doris died in 1999, so they must have divorced, as in 1976 George married Patricia Alice Johnson.
