Hadfield's father was John Dyson and his mother was Mary Raynor. He had three brothers and three sisters, named George, Abraham, Daniel, Emelia, Elizabeth and Mary.  He was the third oldest of the seven children. He had a half-sister named Ellen.  He died at the age of 71 in 1908.
