Charles was born on September 11th, 1813 in Penistone and his baptism took place there on September 23rd, 1813.1  Charles' father was Charles Crosland and his mother was Elizabeth (Betty) Armitage. He had a brother and a sister, named William and Sarah.  He was the youngest of the three known children.
