John was born in 1783 at Mather's Fold and his baptism took place on November 12th, 1783 at Walmsley Presbyterian.1  John's father was John Crook and his mother was Ann Walsh. He had two brothers named Thomas and Peter.  He was the second oldest of the three known children.  He died at the age of 55 on January 5th, 1838 in Bolton.2
