Thomas' father was Thomas Bromilow and his mother was Ann Mather.  His maternal grandparents were John Mather and Betty Woodward. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, John, John, James, William, George, Betty, Catherine and Ellen.  He was the fifth youngest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 1 in March 1851 in Bolton.²
