Fred's father was Thomas Bridge and his mother was Betty Mather. His maternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Mary Ann (Martha) Jane Bolton. He had two sisters named Ada and Minnie. He was the oldest of the three children. He died at 2 months old in December 1883 in Bury.²
