Samuel's father was Samuel Brereton Snr and his mother was Mary Whittingham. He had three brothers and two sisters, named George, Thomas, John, Katherine and Elizabeth.  He was the oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 72 in March 1810 in Wybunbury.  He was buried on March 14th, 1810 in Wybunbury.¹
