Henry was born in January 1752 in Haslingden and his baptism took place there on January 10th, 1752.1  Henry's father was James Mather and his mother was Isabel Barns.  His paternal grandparents were John (Old Hatter) Mather and Martha Mather. He had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named James, John, Thomas, Mary, Martha, Alice and Mary.
