Sarah was born in October 1859 in Bolton.1  Sarah's father was John Banks and her mother was Rachel Holt.  Her paternal grandparents were Philip Banks and Sarah Bolton. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Charles, John, Richard, Mary, Mary and Margaret. She had an adopted brother and an adopted sister, named Peter and Elizabeth. She had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Thomas, Sarah, Mary and Elizabeth.

‌Sarah and Alfred were married in a religious ceremony in 1878 at St. Mary (Deane).2   The family line is yet to be completed.
