Dora was born in October 1884 in Durham.1  Dora's father was John Askew and her mother was Anna (Annie) Westpfahl.  Her maternal grandparents were Heinrich Christian Frederick  Westpfahl and (Juliane) Charlotte Focke. She had two brothers and a sister, named John, William and Florence.  She was the oldest of the four children.  She died at the age of 34 in June 1919 in Gateshead.2
