Betsy was born in August 1840 in Little Bolton.1  Betsy's father was James Ashcroft and her mother was Mary Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were John Mather and Betty Edge. She had four brothers and a sister, named John, Thomas, Abel, Robert and Betsy.  She was the second youngest of the six children.  She died at the age of 1 in January 1842 in Little Bolton.  She was buried on January 2nd, 1842 in Bolton.2 1
