John was born in 1896.  John's father was Evan Ames and his mother was Mary (Polly) Ann Halliday.  His maternal grandparents were George Halliday and Sarah Massey. He had a brother and a sister, named Benjamin and Sarah.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 58 in 1954.
