- Ethel Hooberry was born at home and attended the Buena Vista Elementary School in Nashville, Tennessee. She married Jack E. Burke on February 24, 1934 and they had a daughter, Barbara Ann. Ethel had a son, W. R. Shockley, from a previous marriage. She worked for the Stanley Home Products Co., and won many sales awards during that time. Ethel and Jack lived on Thompson Lane in Nashville next to St. Edward's Church and later they moved to Brentwood Parkway in Brentwood, Tennessee. She was co-owner of the Brentwood Fire Dept. Inc. with her husband. Ethel was a member of the St. Philip Catholic Church in Franklin, Tennessee.
Ethel Hooberry Burke, 86, of Brentwood died Monday, Jan. 14, at the Williamson Medical Center. Mrs. Burke was the widow of Jack E. Burke. He was the owner and operator of the Brentwood Fire Department Inc., the predecessor to the city operated fire department. Mrs. Burke was co-owner and vice-president of the company and a dealer for Stanley Products. She was a Davidson County native and a communicant of St. Philips Catholic Church. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Baltz of College Grove; her son, Jack Shockley of Waverly; her sister, Thelma Winter and her brother, Ben Hooberry, both of Nashville; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral mass was celebrated Wednesday at Waller Funeral Home in Nolensville with the Rev. Edward Arnold officiating. Burial was in the Nolensville Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Robert Hollister, David Perry, Pat Selby, T.W. Shumate and Herschel Foust. Her Grandsons served as active pallbearers. Review-Appeal Jan. 20, 1991.

Winter, Jr.; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren; brother, Ben C. Hooberry all of Nashville. Services will be 10 a.m., Monday, September 14, 1992 at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, Father Patrick J. Kibby officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, 2-8 p.m. and Sunday after 12 noon. Rosary at 7:30 p.m., Sunday at Roesch Patton Austin Bracey and Charlton Funeral Home, 209 Louise Avenue. Pallbearers: William David Sandler, Michael J. Sandler, William H. Bardill, Jr., John Patrick Bardill, Joseph C. Bardill, Daniel P. Bardill and John A. Gupton IV. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Cecilia.
