Etje was born on September 18th, 1838 in Fiebing, Ostfriesland, Lower Saxony, Germany.1   Etje's father was Rencke Claaßen Zimmermann and her mother was Mareke Harms Wemken. She had two half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Clas, Tamme, Gretje, Taalke, Gretje, Vohlke and Almt.  She died at the age of 2 on March 29th, 1841 in Fiebing, Ostfriesland, Lower Saxony, Germany.1
