    Nice to meet you Naomi. Thanks for replying to my query at familyhistory. It took me a couple of days to reply - busy week. I'm curious - are you a VanVickle descendant? If so - from whom?
    
    The deed you mention is fascinating - I would love to have a copy if it isn't too much trouble. It provides some very interesting information as to timeframes. If you have a scanner, a scanned image would be great. If not, I would love to have a xerox copy. My mailing address is at the end of this message. Is there any information regarding the VanVickle lineage that I can provide to you?
    
    A brief chronology of Evert and Sarah: Evert and Sarah were my great-great-great grandparents. Evert was born abt 1790 in Berkeley County West Virginia (I believe it was still a part of
    Virginia at that time) and came to Pickaway County Ohio in either 1803 or 1806 (some different opinions on this) with his parents and family. (Note: Evert's father was also named Evert, so it
    becomes difficult at times to be sure which Evert we are referring to.) Evert and Sarah White were married at the farm of her parents in Ross County Ohio on 26 November 1809. Soon after
    they moved to Butler County Ohio. We know they were living in Butler County by 1813 because in 1813 he enlisted in the War of 1812 from Butler County with his brother Robert. His father Evert and other brothers remained in Pickaway County. The family of Evert and Sarah next appear in the 1820 Federal Census of Jennings County Indiana. It was in Jennnings County Indiana around 1816 that my great-great grandfather William was born. After living some time in Vermillion County Illinois, Evert and Sarah eventually wound up in Holt County Missouri, near Saint Joseph. That is where the subsequent generations of my lineage originate from.
    
    The deed you have is extremely interesting. The fact that your deed lists both Evert and Sarah - I can be sure it definitely was him and not his father. Given the date of the deed, it would appear
    that they still owned land in Butler County Ohio as late as 1819. It creates a curiousity in that William is said to have been born in 1816 in Indiana, yet Evert still owned land in Ohio as late as
    1819.
    
    You spoke of other "coincidences" - that really has my curiosity peaked. Look forward to corresponding further with you. Please reply soon.

    Absalom Vanvickle came from Virginia with his parents in 1806. They settled in Jackson township. He served as a soldier during the war of 1812. In 1819 he married Elizabeth Dulgar, by whom he had two children. He bought one hundred and twenty-five acres of land three miles west of Commercial Point, in 1832. This he cleared by his own labor. He died in 1863, at the age of seventy-five. His wife died in 1873, aged eighty-two. His daughter, Mrs. William Dechert, now owns the property.

    George Hott moved to Scioto township, from Walnut, in 1847, and located in Robtown, where he lived about twenty years, when he went to Darbyville, for two years. In 1867 he moved to Fayette county, where he now lives. He raised seven children, four of whom live in Scioto: Jackson, William, Mrs. Mary A. Clark, and George. George married Matilda Robison, in 1857, and has two children both at home. Flora C., is the wife of James Welsh. Mr. Hott owns a farm of one hundred and seventy acres, and carried on general farming business, just north of Robtown, at which place he resides.

    Daniel Vansickle was a miller by occupation, and came from Berks county, Pennsylvania, in 1800. He worked in Stephen Short's mill, near Ashville, and was married there in 1811. His wife was from Loudoun county, Virginia. He worked in Short's mill five or six years, and for a short time after the mill was sold. Then he worked in Foresman's mill, of Big Walnut, and died in the year 1834, aged sixty. Four Children were born to him: Mrs. Mary Ann Abbot; Martha Vansickle,
    who died when about twenty-one; Elizabeth Vansickle, who lived with her sister, Mrs. Abbott; and Daniel, who owns a farm of sixty acres, on section one. Mr. Vansickle, Sr., was twice in the war of 1812.

    DANIEL VANVICKLE
    
    The following obituary is reprinted for its genealogical and historical value. It appeared in the October 10, 1884 issue of the Democrat and Watchman.
    
    The venerable Daniel VanVickle, Esq., one of the oldest citizens of Harrison Township, died at his late residence, Monday, Sept. 29th, (1884) after an illness of two weeks, of inflammation of the bowels. He was born in Walnut Township close to Ashville, on the 25th day of February 1817, and was nearly 68 years old. He was the only son of Daniel VanVickle, the old miller of the War of 1812 fame.
    
    His father migrated to this state in 1803. At the breaking out of the War of 1812, he and three brothers entered the services, but in a short time Daniel was discharged and sent home, as it was considered he could be of more service at home grinding flour than in the field, as at that time mills and millers were very scarce. For many years his father ran the old mill below Millport, for his esteemed friend, Philip Foresman, who has long since been dead.
    
    Here young Daniel learned the milling trade and worked for his father many years, but preferring the farm to the dusty mill, he moved on a farm, and ever afterward followed that vocation for a living. He obtained a fair education at select schools, as there were no public schools in his young life.
    
    In those early days wild game was abundant in this section of Ohio, and he and his father spent considerable time in hunting and ran many narrow risks of their lives, while in pursuit of bears and other wild animals, which were a terror to the few settlers along the streams. He loved his old rifle dearly and in his younger days was a marksman hard to beat. Whenever he drew the bead, something was sure to fall. But as time dimmed his eyesight he laid aside his old companion which was near and dear to him.
    
    His early life was spent in helping to clear up the wilds of this county. He always was a hard worker, and a man well fitted to brave the storms of a forest life. H lived to see his native county one the finest in the State.
    
    He was first married to Elizabeth Clark, who bore him seven children. His second wife was Phebe Whitehead, and to them were born tow children. His third wife, who survives
    him, was Nancy Hudson and to them were born five children.
