  • MRS. JOHN T. RICE.
    
    Minnie Johanna Elsie Trauernicht was born January 24, 1878, at Iron Mountain, Mo., a daughter of Mary and Robert Trauernicht, and passed away at her home in Irondale, Mo., on June 4, 1943 at 6:45 p.m.
    
    She was united in marriage to John Thomas Rice of Irondale, Oct. 15, 1902. To this union were born six children: Naomi of St. Louis; Zenda of Flat River; Minette of Houston, Texas; William of St. Louis; Florence of Irondale and Robert, now serving somewhere overseas in the Army Air Corps.
    
    Mrs. Rice united with the Presbyterian Church in the year 1911. She fully enjoyed and considered it her duty to work in the various departments of church and Sunday School. She especially loved little children and seem never to tire of teaching and helping them. Her interest in the Beginners and Cradle Roll departments kept her happy in working with them for many years.
    
    Devotion to her church came first but she has always been interested and active in affairs of the community. She used many hours of her time and much energy and gave them unselfishly, believing and hoping to make her home town just a little better place in which to live.
    
    Her various civic interests included active participation in the early development of good roads and Child Welfare work. With Mrs. Frank DeGarmo of St. Louis, she organized and began the first work of this kind in this district (Washington County.)
    
    She was elected secretary of the Missouri Congress of Mothers, when this organization held its state convention in St. Louis in the year 1912.
    
    During the first World War she converted her rooms upstairs into a large work shop and store room for Red Cross supplies. She worked long and late herself and opened them to the women of the chapter for use at any time.
    
    Mrs. Rice held the office of postmaster of Irondale for nine years.
    
    Other orgnizations in which her work will be remembered are: Mothers Club, the Pick and Shovel Club, the Community Club, The Parent Teachers Association and 4-H Clubs.
    
    Besides her many friends, Mrs. Rice leaves one brother, Alfred Trauernicht of Bismarck; one sister, Mrs. Minetta Conzelman of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Jimmy, Martha, Zenda Gale and Harriet; two daughters-in-law, Betty and Dorothy; four sons-in-law, Thomas Smith of St. Louis; Dr. Gale Thomason of Flat River; Byron Robinson of Irondale and Robert Yeargain of Houston Texas.
