    YORK -- Herman Trauernicht, 83, died Wednesday (Aug. 21, 2002) at his home in York.
    
    He was born June 27, 1919, at Anselmo to Herman and Bertha (Farner) Trauernicht. He spent his early years farming south of Eustis.
    
    On May 31, 1931, he married Joan Nelson at Gering. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II as a Military Policeman in Washington, D.C.
    
    Following his discharge, he was a John Deere implement dealer in Elwood for several years before moving to Bertrand where he worked as a John Deere parts man. He served as a lay pastor at Pleasant View Christian Church and Greenwood Christian Church. He then moved his family to Lincoln to attend college to become a minister. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and the Cotner School of Religion. He was ordained in 1970, while he was serving the Unadilla Christian Church, which later yoked with the Elmwood Christian Church. He moved to York in 1973 and served the First Christian Church in York. He retired as a full-time minister in 1984 and then served as as interim pastor to six churches, one of which was in Cameron, W.Va., and the others in Nebraska.
    
    He was a former member of York Masonic Lodge No. 56 A.F. & A.M., the American Legion Bolton Post No. 19 of York and he was a Boy Scout Leader while living in Bertrand.
    
    He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard; and two infant brothers, Paul and Theodore.
    
    Survivors include his wife, Joan of York; one daughter, O'Della Jo and husband, Jeff Taylor of Greensboro, N.C.; one son, Allan Trauernicht and wife, Irene of Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister, Pansy Hall of Mitchell; two sisters-in-law, Gwen Deselms of Elwood and Helen Trauernicht of Nampa, Idaho; four grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.
    
    Memorial services will be Monday, 2:30 p.m., at the First Christian Church in York with the Rev. Ron Johnson officiating.
    
    There will be no visitation.
    
    Memorials may be made in care of Hospice of Tabitha Healthcare Services or the First Christian Church in York.

    Herman Trauernicht, 83, of York, died at his home in York on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 21, 2002.
    
    He was born on June 27, 1919, at Anselmo to Herman and Bertha (Farner) Trauernicht. He played "pasture" baseball at the age of 10 or 11, pitching many games on weekends. As he grew older he played baseball in many of the towns in which he lived. He spent his early years farming south of Eustis. Herman was united in marriage to Joan Nelson on May 31, 1931, at Gering. The couple celebrated 61 years of marriage.
    
    Herman was called into the service of his country in World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, and served as a Military Policeman in Washington, D.C. After his discharge, he was a John Deere implement dealer in Elwood for several years. While living in Elwood, he was baptized at the First Christian Church at the age of 40. He then moved his family to Bertrand where he worked as a John Deere parts man. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader while living in Bertrand.
    
    The Lord called him to be a minister while he was living in Bertrand. He served as a lay pastor at Pleasant View Christian Church and Greenwood Christian Church. He then moved his family to Lincoln to go to college to become a minister. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and the Cotner School of Religion. He was ordained in 1970 while he was serving Unadilla Christian Church, which later yoked with the Elmwood Christian Church while he was still serving there.
    
    Herman moved to York in 1973 and served the First Christian Church in York for 11 1/2 years, building a new church at 2121 Delaware Avenue during that period of time. He retired as a full-time minister in 1984.
    
    Herman then served as interim pastor to six churches and was called to return to two of those churches for a second time. One of those interim churches he served was in Cameron, W.V., and all the rest were in Nebraska. Herman was a fill-in minister for his minister friends while they were on vacation, ill, or on sabbatical.
    
    He was a former member of York Masonic Lodge #56, A.F. & A.M. and was a member of the American Legion Bolton Post #19 of York, where he served as Chaplain. Herman was also involved with the American Legion in several of the towns in which he served interims. His hobbies included a love of music and playing the guitar, painting with acrylics, working with clay and pottery, traveling and Indian archaeology.
    
    Survivors include his wife, Joan R. Trauernicht of York; one daughter, O'Della Jo (and her husband, Jeff) Taylor of Greensboro, N.C.; one son, Allan Kent (and his wife, Irene) Trauernicht of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren: Tonya Ann (and her husband, Brien) Brandenburg of Greensboro, N.C., Tricia LeAnn (and her husband, Pete) Bouras of Greensboro, N.C., Tia Mara (and her husband, Todd) Newcomer of Portland, Ore., and Alex Edgars Trauernicht of Lincoln; three great-granddaughters: Taylor Ann Bouras, Riley Elizabeth Bouras and Annalyse Marie Brandenburg; one sister, Pansy Hall of Mitchell; two sisters-in-law: Gwen Deselms of Elwood and Helen Trauernicht of Nampa, Idaho.
    
    Herman was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister-in-law (Richard and Doris Trauernicht), and two infant brothers (Paul Elsworth and Theodore Trauernicht).
    
    It was Herman's wishes that his body be cremated. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Monday, Aug. 26, at the First Christian Church in York with Pastor Ron Johnson officiating. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be made in care of Hospice of Tabitha Healthcare Services or the First Christian Church in York.
