Gustav was born on December 30th, 1909 in Nemaha County, Nebraska.1   Gustav's father was Niclaus Henry George Heinrich Oestmann and his mother was Emma Maria Bohling. He had a brother and a sister, named Alvin and Alma.  He died at the age of 71 on March 30th, 1981 in Auburn, Nemaha County, Nebraska.1

Gustav and Iola were married in a religious ceremony on June 1st, 1932 in St. James Lutheran Church, Humboldt, Nebraska.1   They had three daughters named Marlene, Angela and Velda.
