Tamme was born in 1705 in Aurich-Oldendorf, Lower Saxony, Germany.  Tamme's father was Hippe Tammen and his mother was Anke Hinrichs. He had two brothers and a sister, and also two siblings of unknown gender, named Heinrich, Haye, Moder, Hippen and Hippen.  He died at the age of 84 in 1789 in Aurich-Oldendorf, Lower Saxony, Germany.
