Jake was born on December 9th, 1862 in Germany.1   Jake's father was Jacob Gripka and his mother was Mary Daus. He had two brothers named August and Albert.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died due to heart disease, Pulminary Tuberculosis, at the age of 64 on March 4th, 1927 in Van Buren Township, Newton County, Missouri.1
