Ernst was born on May 22nd, 1839 in Isenstedt, Prussia and his baptism took place on May 22nd, 1839 in Gehlenbeck Lutheran Church, Gehlenbeck, Germany.1   Ernst's father was Heinrich Wilhelm Brumwort and his mother was Anna Maria Dorothea Beckschewe.  His paternal grandparents were Johan Herman Brumwort and Margaret Lisabeth Blase; his maternal grandparents were Johan C. Beckschewe and Anna Margaretha Elisabeth Rabe. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named Wilhelm, Heinrich, Henry, Anton, Louis, Carl, Friedrich, Caroline and Caroline.  He was the second youngest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 76 on December 13th, 1915.  He was buried at the Saint Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Troy, Madison County, Illinois.1 1 





Ernst's family

Ernst and Mary were married on April 1st, 1861 in St. John's Lutheran Church, Pleasant Ridge, Madison County, Illinois.1   They had six sons and six daughters, named Fred, John, August, Ludwig, Heinrich, Herman, Carolina, Katharina, Anna, Mary, Emma and Clara.  Katharina and Anna were twins.
