Henry was born on October 13th, 1869.1   Henry's father was August Wilkening and his mother was Sophia Grote.  His paternal grandparents were Hans Henry Wilkening and Engel S.M. Hasemann; his maternal grandparents were Grote and Elizabeth Dralle. He had a brother and five sisters, named August, Emilia, Sophia, Augusta, E.S. and Louise.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.
