Sy Zainal's father was Sy Harun and his mother is Sh Kelah.  His paternal grandfather was Sy Sulaiman and his paternal grandmother is Sh Salmah; his maternal grandparents are Alwi and Sh Salmah.  He had a brother and three sisters, named Sy Anuar, Sh Norakhma, Sh Noraidah and Sh Suhana.
