Sy Esa's father is Alwi and his mother is Sh Salmah.  His paternal grandfather was Ali; his maternal grandparents were Sy Ishak and Tuan Mahani.  He had three brothers and three sisters, named Sy Abbas, Sy Ishak, Sy Zakaria, Sh Kelah, Sh Halimah and Sh Hasnah.  He had a half-sister named Sh Zaharah.  He died in an accident or as a result of an injury in 2004.
