Margaret was born in September 1821 in Knockboy, Buolick and her baptism took place on September 30th, 1821 in Gortnahoe.  Margaret's father was Patrick Stapleton and her mother was Bridget Dunne. She had two brothers and two sisters, named William, James, Honora and Bridget.  She was the third oldest of the five children.  She died at the age of 76 on November 24th, 1897 in Gurteen, Buolick Co Tipperary.

‌Margaret and Patrick were married in a religious ceremony on June 2nd, 1842 in Gortnahoe.  They had a daughter named Ellen.
