Cornelis was born in 1616 in Dordrecht and his baptism took place there on December 1st, 1616.1  Cornelis' father was David Christoffelsz Schalij and his mother was Sara Michielsdr van der Beek.  His paternal grandparents are <Unknown> and <Unknown>. He had a brother and a sister, named David and Catelijn.  He was the oldest of the three children.
