Matthew was born in 1628 in Artois, Normandie, France. Matthew's father is Matthys BLANCHAN and his mother was Magdalena Brissen JOIRE.  He had two brothers and eight sisters, named Mattheus, Elizabeth, Madelaine, Magdalena, Maximilanus, Maria, Anna, Cathrine, Elizabeth and Madeline.  He is the fourth oldest of the eleven children.
