Alan Ian 8th Duke of Northumberland

Alan Ian's father was Henry 7th Duke of Northumberland and his mother was <Unknown>.  His paternal grandparents were Algernon George 6th Duke of Northumberland and <Unknown>.  He was an only child.  He died in 1930.

• General Notes

  Captain in the Grenadier Guards in the Boer War 1901 - 1902.  Was awarded the Queens Medal abd 4 clasps.
  1908 fought in the Sudan campaign, especially at Kordofan - was awarded the Egyptian medal with clasp.
  Aide-de-Camp to Earl Grey, Governor-General of Canada.
  During WWI served with the Grenadier Guards - was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour.
  Played a leading role for the English in Ireland during the rebelilion of the 1920's - was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.
  Eighth Duke of Northumberland 1918 - 1930.
