Butcher was born in 1702 in Gestingthorpe, Essex, England.  Butcher's father was Mr Butcher Rippingale and his mother was Mrs Mary Simson.  His paternal grandparents were Mr Johnathan Rippingale and Mrs Elizabeth Butcher?.
