Thomas was born in 1699 in Bratoft, Lincoln, England and his christening took place there on July 30th, 1699.  Thomas' father was Thomas Racke and his mother was Elizabeth Shepherd. He had a brother and four sisters, named Thomas, Rose, Ruth, Rebecka and Anne.  He was the third youngest of the six children. He had a half-sister named Mary.
