George was born in 1734 in Dundee, Angus, Scotland.  George's father was Mr George Mudie and his mother was Mrs Janet Proctor.  His paternal grandparents were Mr Robert Mudie and Mrs Ann Finlay. He had two brothers named William and David.  He was the youngest of the three children.
