Teodozya was born on December 1st, 1851 in Starczynów.  Teodozya's father was Henryk Rettel and her mother was Marianna Hachulska. She had three brothers named Karol Andrzej, Andrzej Jozef and Władysław Ignacy.  She was the second oldest of the four children.
