Alfons was born on August 31st, 1935 in Paal.  Alfons' father was Cyriel Rediers and his mother was Amelia Gaethofs.  His paternal grandparents were Petrus Alfons Rediers and Maria Antonia Coenen. He has a brother and four sisters, named Henri, Antionette, Liliane, Jeaninne and Myriam.  He is the oldest of the six children.
