Ignacy was born on January 31st, 1859 in Hebdów-Stare Brzesko Pławowice PL.  Ignacy's father was Ignacy Dziekan and his mother was Marianna Maja.  His paternal grandparents were Maciej Dziekan and Katarzyna  Dudek; his maternal grandparents were Maciej Maja and Agatha Gurda. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Wincenty, Wojciech, Jan, Jozefa, Malgorzata and Marianna.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children. He had a half-brother named Andrzej.
