Rafael was born in 1823. Rafael's father was Juan José Chiriboga (Villavicencio) and his mother was Manuela Dávalos (Mancheno). His paternal grandparents were Juan Antonio Chiriboga (Jijón) and Gregoria Villavicencio. He was an only child.-
