John was born on July 4th, 1887.  John's father was Deyer Akin and his mother was Kate Jessen.  His maternal grandparents were Johannus Jessen and Katrina C. Krownberg. He had a brother named Anton.  He was the older of the two children.  He died at the age of 89 on September 16th, 1976.
