Violet Evaline was born about 1888 in Ripon, Yorkshire, England.  Violet Evaline's father is John Benjamin Darwin and her mother is Florence.  Her paternal grandparents are James Darwin and Catherine Hargreaves.. She has six brothers and three sisters, named Horace Reginald, Edgar Arthur, Harold Ernest, Harry, Frederick Maruice, Bertie, Rose Florence, Ethel Adeline and Lilian Mabel.  She is the fifth youngest of the ten children.
