Sancha de's baptism took place in 1210.  Sancha de's father was D. Afonso de Leão IX and her mother was Teresa Gil de Soverosa.  Her paternal grandparents were D. Fernando de Leão II and D. Urraca de Portugal. She had a brother and two sisters, named Martim Afonso de, Maria Afonso de and Urraca Afonso de.
