George was born in 1821 in Hampton, Middlesex.  George's father was Richard Trodd and his mother was Harriet. He had four brothers and five sisters, named John, Abel, Walter, James, Prudence, Thirza, Emma, Ellen and Lydia.  He is the oldest of the ten children.
