Peter was born in 1842 in Bishops Waltham.  Peter's father was Peter Messem and his mother is Elizabeth Horner.  His maternal grandparents were James Horner and Mary. He had five sisters named Mary, Rachel, Ruth, Rachel and Caroline.  He was the youngest of the six children.  He died in 1842 in Droxford.
