Pieter Martinus was born on January 3rd, 1823 in Leiden.  Pieter Martinus' father was Pieter de Nobel and his mother was Margaretha Catharina  (Grietje) Hijmans / Heijmans.  His paternal grandparents were Hendrik / Henri de / le Nobel (le Noble) and Johanna / Anna Vindekleet / Vin de Klé / Vindekleed; his maternal grandparents were Pieter Heijmans and Martijntje / Martijntje  Burkeloo / van Berkeloo. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Hendrik, Hendrik, Petronella and Catharina.  He was the youngest of the five children.
