Charles' father was Matthew Stuart and his mother was Margaret Douglas.  His paternal grandparents were John Stewart and Unknown; his maternal grandparents were Archibald Douglas and Margaret Tudor.  He was the youngest of two children.  He had a brother named Henry.  He died in 1576.
