Ferdinand was born in 1785.  Ferdinand's father was Francis Frederick of_Saxe-Coburg and his mother was Augusta Reuss-Ebersdorf.  His paternal grandparents were Ernest Frederick of_Saxe-Coburg and Sophia Antonia of_Brunswick; his maternal grandparents were Henry_XXIV Reuss-Ebersdorf and Caroline Erbach-Schonberg.  He was the second of seven children.  He had two brothers and four sisters, named Ernest_I of_Saxe-Coburg- Saalfeld, Leopold_I George of_Saxe-Coburg, Victoria Mary Louisa, Antoinette, Sophie and Julie.  He died at the age of 66 in 1851.
