Harriet, known as Hattie, was born in 1870 in New York.  Hattie's father was Daniel C. Bowen and her mother was Martha Bowen (Richardson).  Her paternal grandparents were Ezra Bowen and Julia Chase (Bowen); her maternal grandparents were Richardson and Weils.  She was an only child.
