Gabriela's father was José Lopes and her mother was Joaquina Freitas Morna.  Her maternal grandparents were  Julio de  Freitas Morna and  Maria Carolina Gomes.  She is the third of seven children.  She has six sisters named Maria José, Deolinda, Carmelita, José , Maria Alice and Conceição.
