Joseph was born about 1877 in Allendale, Northumberland.  Joseph's father is Unknown and his mother is Mary Ann Barron.  His maternal grandfather was Joseph Barron and his maternal grandmother is Elizabeth Unknown.  He has three half-brothers and six half-sisters, named Isaac, Temple, John Thomas, Ethel, Lizzie Ellen, Florence, Wilamina, Caroline and Mary Hannah.
