Judith's father was Jan  Barend van Blerk and her mother was Maria Catharina van den Berg.  Her paternal grandfather was Jan Barend van Blerk and her paternal grandmother is Geertuij Swart; her maternal grandparents are Pieter  van den Berg and Susanna Catharina Fouche. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Johannes, Petrus, Hendrik, Hendrik, Casper, Gertruida, Susanna, Maria, Catharina and Hester.
