Hester's father was Siemon (Paatjie) Petrus van Blerck and her mother was Anna Margaretha van der Merwe.  Her paternal grandfather was Jacobus Rogier van Blerk and her paternal grandmother is Geertruida Elizabeth Louw. She had two brothers named Nicolaas and Philip. She had six half-brothers and six half-sisters, named Ragel, Jacobus, Simon , Petrus Gerhadus, Jan, Gerhadus, Johanna, Jacomina, Anna, Cornelia, Martha and Catharina.  She died in 1945.
