Cathrina Elizabeth was born in 1855 in Paarl. Cathrina Elizabeth's father was Johannes Christiaan van Blerk and her mother was Hendrina Aletta Henrietta Hiebner. Her paternal grandparents were Johannes Petrus (Jan) van Blerk and Geertruida Elizabeth Louw (van Blerk); her maternal grandparents were Albertus Philippus Hiebner and Hester Magdalena du Plessis. She had a brother and two sisters, named Johannes Petrus Christiaan, Gertrude Elizabeth Jacoba and Sara Alberta. She was the second youngest of the four children. She died at the age of 28 on May 2nd, 1883 in Paarl.
